Some Ratchet Bling

I got to make this cool ring the other day.
Plays with two of my favourite things:
cool fonts and weird shapes.

His birthday party theme was "Ratchet"
No idea what that really means.

But here we go... these are 3 sneak peaks of a new range I'm working on.
Plainly called: Simple Shapes.

Got wood?

For your viewing pleasure.
The first look of the completed wood rings range.
Each ring is hand made with a sterling silver sleeve.
The wood used also all reclaimed (recycled)
Currently I'll be doing:
Pine, Oak, Cherry and Purple Heart.
For those wondering about them,
I'll be having a limited amount for sale at
Design Indaba 2013.
(Making stock until then is going to be insane)
Price depends on the wood and size,
but they'll be selling for average R420 each.

The Purple Heart in these picture has a 9ct gold sleeve.
Gold sleeved done on order.

Mens wedding rings

I've had a lot of requests for wedding band recently.
But the bigger question for all the guys is:
what's the best ring for a man?

It comes down to personal choice at the end,
but guys have just as big a variety as women these days.
Guys can choose between a bunch of metals:
Silver, Yellow Gold, White Gold, Platinum, Titanium and Tungsten

If you want to keep it traditional, just go for a plain yellow gold band.

Or mix it up with an intricate design?

But for the guys who really want something different,
why not some stones in the mix?
Men these days do like something flashy.

Think about what you want and then what you need.
If you work with your hands a lot steer clear of softer metals,
like 18ct Gold or Silver, that can scratch and deform easily.
Also remember if you pic Titanium or Tungsten,
they can't be resized like the other metals,
one size for better or worse.

Some work for clients...

So I've been hard at work.... This has been a very busy few weeks for me. The fringe arts have opened a new store and I've been making pieces for them (but thats for another blog) and I've been teaching and doing commisions.
So in this post, I tell you this: These beauties gave me sleepless nights. Escuse the bad photo's byt the way. I need to take my camera for a service, anyone know of somewhere good?
So these rings are for two ladies I know. Very close to my heart. These are just very simple rings with each of their birthstones. The top one is a cusion cut citrine, the birthstone for Novemeber (Mine incidentally).
And this beauty is a star ruby (took me hours to photograph the star), which is the birthstone for July. They also asked me to make two pendants for the one's nieces. These are the little hearts.
The one lady has a similar pendant that I made, her nieces wanted ones aswell. But she didn't want them to have the same. So what I did was I painted the inside of the pendant with glasspaint (this is a new favourite of mine), each of their favourite colours. I am very impressed with these pieces.

let's get married....

Hello my little blog monkeys.... So I've gotten a bit of a suprise recently...
My best friend told me she is getting married...
I'm very very excited for her, love both her and her boyfriend to bits...
So my wedding gift to them is I am making the engagment ring and wedding rings for them... Something I would do for oldest and closest friend....

So this is the design process of her ring... She already has the stones, infact she might even be getting more... And now I am just playing around until we find the perfect combination.... It has to be traditional, with a bit of flair and ellegance.... Add to it that I am her best man (she's not having a maid of honour) and I feel this has so be very very special.... It only happens once in a lifetime, unless divorce is an option for you...

Let's hope it's not....

Birthday gift and a violin...

So I've been a bad blogger... The earrings above were yet another birthday gift. These were for a friend who studies jewellery with me, Metaxia. We have a love hate relationship. I believe she's having my children one day... Anyway, the earrings are sterling silver, each segment has a different texture on.

This was a project I gave myself, started out as a pendant and became a ring. The heart is blackened and the stones are cabachon garnet and Iolite.

7 deadly shanks....

This was another "piece" for my 3rd year collection. The insperation for these rings were the 7 deadly sins. Each ring is inspired by one of the sins. The shanks themselves are all uniform, they are oval shaped with a gallery to support the heart ontop. The gallery being a small 7 to hold the heart atop.

Each of the hearts sits at a slight angle and has a different feature. The hearts are modified aas such:
Envy: the heart was highly polished and then glasspainted green.
Gluttony: this heart was made double the size of the others and has a scratched surface
Pride: this heart was stamped me and polished
Lust: has a tiny bikini made out of plate and the bikini was glasspainted red.
Greed: a small disc, stamped R1 is pushed into the heart, to make it look like a piggybank
Wrath: a small dagger was carved out of silver and pressed into the heart.
Sloth: for this heart I made a small silver pillow on which the heart rests, I then made little z's and attached them to make it look like it is snoring.

This was a very succesfull collection of rings and I am pleased to say that I've been approaced by mayny people about bying replicas of them or even making sets with the concept....
