For those who don't know Lauren Fowler is an illustrator, knitter, graphic designer and thing maker!
She says:
"From today (15th August) until the 15th of September, I've taken over the two box windows as an artist in residence at The Fringe Arts on Kloof street. I'll be working from the windows for the week form 10am - 4pm, come and visit!"

A fringe'd press release

From 15 June 2011 South African art & design collective The Fringe Arts will open the doors of its first permanent shop. Aptly called The Fringe on Kloof, the shop will be located on vibrant Kloof Street in Cape Town.
Brainchild of Chantal Louw and Thessa Bos, The Fringe Arts is known for its pop-up shops that feature art, design and ‘bread and butter’ ranges by local artists, designers and illustrators as well as limited edition fine art prints by Warren Editions and Artthrob. Each piece, selected by Louw and Bos, is handmade, conceptualised and manufactured in South Africa.
Louw and Bos have managed to build a collective of South Africa’s top creatives. Encouraged by national and internationalist trend analysts who collectively predict the trend of living local and a demand for locals goods, Louw and Bos focus exclusively on local art and design, showcasing South Africa’s creative edge and its ability to compete internationally in the art and design market.
Participating designers include ceramicists Shirley Fintz and John Bauer, jewellery designers Skermunkil and Beloved Beadwork and surface designers Skinny Laminx and Fabric Nation. Art available at The Fringe Arts includes work by Dale Yudelman and Frank van Reenen and limited edition prints/monotypes by Sanell Aggenbach, Georgina Gratix, Candice Breitz and David Glodblatt.
Says Bos: "We work with an amazing range of talented and inspiring people of whom we are incredibly proud, and who keep surprising us with their work. The fact that they are continuously developing their ranges and that in addition there is so much undiscovered talent in South Africa allows us to always keep changing our offering. And it keeps our jobs very exciting."
In addition to work from the collective of artists and designers, The Fringe on Kloof will also carry Bos and Louw's vintage range, Frintage. Both vintage-fanatics, the duo has carefully selected vintage clothing, accessories and décor in collaboration with well-known local vintage brands such as London Road and The Cooks Room.
Says Louw: "Hearts and eyes are turning to the local scene and discovering not only a sense of quality but an amazing abundance of knowledge garnered from our parents and their parents and so forth. From dolosse to vintage, South Africa has a rich history of upcycling"
The Fringe Arts will launch The Fringe on Kloof on Wednesday 15 June from 6 to 8 pm.
Address: 99B Kloof Street Opening hours: Monday to Friday from 9 to 6 pm, Saturday from 9 to 5 pm.

Relaunch of the Fringe Arts
Stunning atmosphere.... Lovely Bubbly, great friends.
The "new" shop looks amazing and so very intimate.
I am so impressed with the new designers they found.
Pictured above is my stock, available at The Fringe Arts, Alfred Mall, V&A Waterfront.
And above are the lovely (and slightly crazy, but that's how I like them) owners,
Chantal Louw and Thessa Boss.
But don't forget the lovely art, Keri is amazingly talented!!!!
Go have a look at the new shop, go look at the exhibition while it's running and more importantly, go be amazed!!!

Design Indaba... it was rad

But we also met the two coolest girls from Durban: Michelle Stewart (above) and Lauren Batchelor (below). Both currently finishing their degrees, I can't wait to see what they come up with in future!

I am working, I promise!
An exhibition came and went... A degree finished up... 7 years came to a close... All good things come to an end right? Correct and so the door opens for better and bigger things....
And with that I have to start bragging about the new member to my jewellery family... Florence the fly press.... Isn't she just too green? This is my absolute favourite tool by the way and I scored an old vintage one... YAY!!! Now to make things...

Aftermath of the heart expo...
I love the hearts done by Inkheart, one by Nina and one by Kevin, as well as the hearts by Metaxia and Lauren Fowler.

Above is my heart, was gone before I could snap a pic of it with the others. It's awesome to be part of this project. I now have a love for gold leaf and have a hankering to make new stock for the shop. So much to do....
